Dealer Of 20.7 Grams Of Methamphetamine Sued 8 Years In Prison At Medan District Court

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati North Sumatra) charged the defendant Edy Wibowo alias Tinok with eight years in prison in a narcotics case of methamphetamine weighing 20.7 grams.

"Asking the panel of judges to sentence them to eight years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said Public Prosecutor Anita at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 18.

The prosecutor assessed that the defendant Edy Wibowo violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics, as the primary indictment, namely without rights or against the law offering to sell, sell, buy, accept, become intermediaries in buying and selling, exchange and handing over narcotics class I in the form of narcotics type methamphetamine weighing 20.7 grams.

"The aggravating thing is that the defendant does not support the government's program in eradicating narcotics, while the mitigating thing is regretting his actions," said Public Prosecutor Anita.

After reading the memorandum of demand, Medan District Court Chief Judge Donald Pangabean postponed the trial with the agenda of reading the defendant's defense (pledoi).

In the indictment, the Public Prosecutor explained that on March 17, 2023, National Police officers and the North Sumatra Province National Narcotics Agency received information from the public regarding illicit trafficking and narcotics transactions of methamphetamine in Durin Tonggal Village, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency.

"Then the officer conducted an investigation into the information, and after knowing the whereabouts of Edy Wibowo on March 18, 2023, the officers secured the defendant," he said.

Anita said the defendant admitted to storing the methamphetamine on orders from Rosul Sembiring and the narcotics would be distributed to the location of Rosul's methamphetamine barracks in Pancur Batu, Deli Serdang.

Previously, the defendant received the methamphetamine from Usman in the middle of an oil palm plantation in Pancur Baru village, Deli Serdang on March 17, 2023.
