PURWOKERTO - Police have uncovered a case of alleged criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in Banyumas Regency, Central Java. The case involved three suspects.

"This case was revealed thanks to information we received on Thursday (1 June) that there was an alleged TIP at the house of a woman with the initials P (63)," said Banyumas Police Chief Kombes Pol Edy Suranta Sitepu at the Banyumas Police Headquarters, Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Wednesday, June 14, confiscated by Antara.

The police chief said that after receiving the information, the Banyumas Police Satreskrim officers immediately went to P's house in Tambaksogra Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas.

At the house that was used as a work training center with the name Isra Ardhi Amalia Foundation chaired by P, the participant found 11 female prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) who were conducting training.

After collecting data and interviews with the CPMIs, it was discovered that one of the CPMIs with the initials DW, a resident of Sokaraja, had been dispatched to Malaysia by suspects P and TTH (61), residents of Jakarta.

In this case, TTH is a funder who has paid a down payment for the CPMI process of Rp7,500,000 to suspect P as a recruiter and suspect S (52) who played a role in picking up and delivering CPMI from Banyumas to Jakarta.

"After checking, it turned out that the victim witness with the initials DW was allegedly dispatched to Malaysia as PMI without complete required documents in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations," said the Chief of Police.

In fact, he said, DW was placed not in accordance with the work promised by suspect P in the form of a household assistant but was employed as a restaurant waitress.

In addition, DW only received a salary of 50 percent from the promised 1,500 Malaysian ringgit per month.

DW was sent back to Indonesia and then suspect P asked the victim's witness father with the initials TH to pay a penalty fee of Rp. 10,500,000 because DW was deemed to have violated the contract in Malaysia.

Because of the request for a penalty fee, the victim witness DW will then be dispatched to Singapore by undergoing training at P's BLK.

"Based on the results of the investigation and witness statements, we on Saturday (10/6) arrested P, TTH, and S along with evidence for further processing at the Banyumas Police," he explained.

The police chief said that based on the results of the examination, it was known that the suspects sent witnesses of DW victims to Malaysia without going through a procedure or recommendation letter from the Banyumas Regency UKM Manpower Office.

In addition, the placement of victim witnesses was also without the knowledge of PT MPU, who was said to be suspect P as a PMI placement company that had collaborated with his BLK.

"We have checked with PT PMU and it is known that the company is not working with suspect P," he said.

Based on the results of the examination, he said, suspect P admitted that he had dispatched around 20 PMIs without official procedures since 2019 to a number of countries in Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the suspect TTH, assisted by suspect S, has dispatched approximately 10 PMIs without official procedures to a number of countries in Asia, especially Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Regarding the crime, the Police Chief said that his party ensnared the three suspects under Article 69 Jo. Article 68 Jo. Article 5 letters b to letter e Jo. Article 4 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons or Article 81 Jo. Article 69 and Article 83 Jo. Article 68 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.
