PADANG - People who use rail transportation modes in West Sumatra are allowed not to wear masks if they are in good health and are not at risk of contracting or transmitting COVID-19 starting June 12, 2023.
"This rule is in accordance with the Circular Letter of the Minister of Transportation Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health Protocols for People Traveling by Rail Transportation During the Covid-19 Endemic Transition Period," said Vice President of PT KAI (Persero) Regional Division II West Sumatra Sofan Hidayah in Padang, Antara, Tuesday, June 13.
However, KAI Regional Division II of West Sumatra recommends customers to vaccinate against COVID-19 up to the second booster or the fourth dose, especially for people who have high risk.
Sofan said the KAI Regional Division II of West Sumatra always supports all government policies for rail travel during the transition period of the COVID-19 endemic. The relaxation of the health protocol is expected to be a turning point for the revival of rail transportation modes and contribute to the recovery of the national economy.
“KAI is committed to continuing to make preventive and promotive efforts to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, as well as continuing to supervise the implementation of health protocols to control transmission. So that rail services that are healthy, safe, and comfortable for all customers are always realized,” he said.
He explained that starting June 12, 2023, his party will issue a complete travel requirement policy using trains that can be guided by passengers.
These requirements include being recommended to continue to vaccinate against COVID-19 until the second booster or fourth dose, especially for people who have high risk.
Then it is allowed not to wear a mask if you are in good health and are not at risk of contracting or transmitting COVID-19 and it is recommended to continue to use a mask that is properly covered if you are not healthy or at risk, before and while traveling.
It is recommended to continue to carry hand sanitizers and/or use soap and running water to wash hands regularly, especially if they have been in contact with objects used simultaneously.
People in unhealthy condition and at risk of contracting or transmitting COVID-19 are advised to keep their distance or avoid crowds of people to prevent transmission.
