PPP Claims Not Targeting 'Kavling' After Supporting Ganjar To Become A Presidential Candidate

Acting Chairperson of the PPP DPP Muhamad Mardiono said his party did not target the 'cavling' behind the decision to support PDI-P cadre Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election.

"This PPP is sincere. PPP has a political foundation for ma'ruf nahi munkar, for the benefit of the people, religion, nation and state. So PPP does not target 'kavling'," said Mardiono at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 4.

However, Mardiono admitted that PPP would propose a candidate as a vice presidential candidate to accompany Ganjar.

"Political goals, yes, of course every party has a goal to achieve a victory, it's a necessity for all political parties. Of course there is a proposal for a candidate, that's for sure," he said.

The name of the candidate, continued Mardiono, has not been determined because there are still various stages and mechanisms including discussions with parties that cooperate with PPP and PDIP.

Mardiono said PPP cadres have prominent figures regarding opportunities as Ganjar's vice presidential candidate.

"The PPP stands out all of them, but later there will be another mechanism in making decisions towards determining the vice presidential candidate to represent Pak Ganjar, of course, there will be another mechanism," he said.

Mardiono said that after declaring support for Ganjar as a candidate for presidential candidate, his party would form a technical form of political cooperation with PDIP.

He has instructed all party elements to socialize the PPP DPP policy regarding support for Ganjar Pranowo.

"We will follow up from the technicalities of political cooperation with the PDI-P, yes, of course it will form a team, but before getting there we will immediately start to socialize to all party elements," he said. PPP, said Mardiono, had conveyed to Jokowi about the wishes and objectives of PPP in political cooperation ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"Because where we are as a coalition, then the PPP makes a quick decision and looks at the historical cooperation between PPP and PDIP, it's quite a long journey, not even political cooperation during the election process, but from the birth of PDIP with PPP it's only 5 days apart that it will then become part of what we will discuss politically in the future, of course, "said Mardiono.
