Police Officers In Bengkulu Circulate Counterfeit Money, Arrested By Residents And Immediately Arrested

BENGKULU - Bengkulu Regional Police (Polda) detained a police officer with the initials IH who was previously caught by residents while he was circulating counterfeit money in Pondok Kelapa District, Bengkulu Regency.

"Yes, I said yesterday that the information was true about the arrest, but we still need to clarify it, We are still investigating it because the person concerned was not circulating money, but found a wallet containing a banknote of one hundred thousand and ten thousand rupiah which was allegedly fake," said Head of Public Relations of the Bengkulu Police, Kombes Pol. Anuardi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, April 14.

He explained that based on the person's statement, the total money found in the wallet was not as previously reported, which was around Rp420 thousand.

"However, currently the police officer is still undergoing intensive examination by Propam at the Bengkulu Police Headquarters," he said.

Previously, a police officer in Bengkulu was arrested by a resident of Central Bengkulu for allegedly trafficking counterfeit money with the mode of buying cigarettes in a shop.

One of the shop owners, Ronaldi, a resident of Padang Betuah Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu Regency, admitted that he was fooled by the Rp100 thousand denomination given by the police officer.

A police officer with the rank of Brigadier General, who is a member of the Bengkulu Police Bhabinkamtibmas, was arrested by residents when they bought cigarettes with counterfeit money for different places.

Ronaldi and his colleagues found out that the money was fake, so they chased the perpetrator who was buying cigarettes at one of the stalls using counterfeit money.

"When we chased after the perpetrator using the Bhabinkamtibmas official motorbike and stopped at one of the stalls to buy more cigarettes. We stopped and asked the perpetrator to replace the fake money," he said.
