A Week, 3 Whales And 2 Dead Dolphins In Bali, NTT And East Java Waters

DENPASAR - The Denpasar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL), Bali, noted that three whales and two dolphins died in the waters of Bali, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and East Java.

Head of the Denpasar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Agency (BPSPL) Permana Yudiarso said, during March 27 to April 1, 3 whales and 2 dolphins died in the waters of the three areas.

"In the past few days, several whales have been found dead in a number of places. That is, just one Sunday (died) from March 27 to April 1, 2023", he said, Monday, April 3.

Overall the working area of BPSPL Denpasar, which includes the waters of Bali, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Java.

Meanwhile, from Denpasar BPSPL data, a dead sperm whale washed up on Oebubun Beach, Biboku Moenleu District, North Central Timor Regency (TTU) NTT.

Then, an unknown whale died in the waters of the Kangean Islands, Madura Sumenep Regency, East Java.

Six dolphins were stranded in the waters of Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, NTT and four managed to live and have been released and two dolphins died. Then lastly, one whale suspected of being Bryde's whale died Stranded on the coast of Batu Lumbang Beach, Selemadeg District, Tabanan Regency, Bali.

The deaths of whales and dolphins have various causes, there are due to weather changes and also due to illness.

"Allegations vary, death due to injuries or illness, it could be a solar storm, weather changes or tropical cyclone Herman in the south of the Indonesian Ocean and including allegations of an earthquake in the Indonesian Ocean", he said.
