Wolfgang Calls David Lee Roth Hate Van Halen's Last Album

JAKARTA - When appearing in the episode of Sirius XM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" last Friday, Wolfgang Van Halen was asked about the disappearance of the album A Different Kind of Truth (2012) from streaming services.

Wolfgang played Van Halen's bassist in 2006 at the age of 15 and was involved in the album's recording.

"Yes. The contract to install it on streaming services has run out. So we're trying to get it back, but there are some people involved who don't like the album and don't make it easy for them to get it back there," Wolfgang said.

When asked if "people" who prevented A Different Kind of Truth from returning to streaming service were involved in the album, Wolfgang replied "Yes."

Eddie Trunk again asked, "Is it possible that the person is commonly known with three initials?", apparently referring to Van Halen's vocalist, David Lee Roth, Wolfgang was hesitant for a moment before answering: "Maybe. I mean, yes, you can combine it."

"I hate to say it, because people would think I was making it up, but it looks like, guys, I really want to have the album back, but he doesn't like it and he doesn't work with us to make it back there."

"So I hope people who like it have their physical version."

Eddie Trunk then asked Wolfgang, who currently leads his own band called Mammoth WVH, whether he likes to communicate with David and has an idea why everything is so difficult when the vocalist signs any contract with Van Halen.

"No, I didn't communicate with him. I think that's why I had a good time with Mammoth. I thought all the time I was at Van Halen, you learn the things you want to do and then you also learn things you don't want to apply. And I think that's why I'm so excited to run Mammoth and make things pure from the start into something you can talk about a lot of things and there's no big challenge other than facing a storm together instead of facing each other. You know what I'm saying? "

With Wolfgang in bass, Van Halen started a long tour in 2007, 2012 and 2015. The band's last concert took place in the summer and fall of 2015. Travel in North America includes 41 concerts which began on July 5, 2015 and ended on October 4, 2015.

In December 2021, Wolfgang was asked about David's retirement in an interview with Consequence.

"Dave is... he's a unique type of guy and [catching]. We don't talk too much, but have. We've always been friendly on tours together, but it's not like me. I haven't spoken to him at all in the last six years. But, I mean, he's David Lee Roth. I'm very happy for him and for everything he's accomplished. And he's really phenomenal... He's always going to be one of the best."
