Ice Cold Series Highlights: Murderer, Coffee, Jessica Wongso, Hotman Paris Considers Judge's Decision To Be Inaccurate

JAKARTA - The cyanide coffee case, which was excited in 2016 and involved two friends, Jessica Wongso and Mirna Salihin, has returned to a public conversation. This is because Netflix released a documentary film entitled Ice Cold: Murderer, Coffee, Jessica Wongso on September 28.

In this case, various parties began to give their opinion regarding this case, one of which was the famous lawyer Hotman Paris who also highlighted the Jessica Wongso case. Through his Instagram social media account, Hotman Paris gave an open letter to President Joko Widodo and Mirna Salihin's biological father, Edi Darmawan.

Hotman Paris said that the judge's decision at that time was deemed not in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHP) article 183. Where the article states that judges are not allowed to impose a sentence on someone except if there are at least two valid pieces of evidence.

"The message of Hotman 911 to Mr. President Jokowi, to the people of all over Indonesia and also to his father Mirna to read article 183 of the Criminal Procedure Code," said Hotman Paris, quoted by VOI via his personal Instagram, Monday, October 9.

"So, the judge's belief should not go first. There must be two valid pieces of evidence. In Jessica's case, the judge's belief preceded two pieces of evidence. The judge's belief based on indirect evidence can be interpreted," explained Hotman Paris.

This was said by Hotman Paris because the evidence presented during the trial at that time was indirect evidence. So he felt that the judge who handed over the verdict to Jessica Wongso had violated Article 183.

"Article 183 is clearly violated. There is no video stating that Jessica has confirmed cyanide. There is no video of it," said Hotman Paris.
