Review Of Sherina's Adventure Film 2: Meeting Nostalgic Space With New Story Sidelines

JAKARTA - Sherina 2's adventure was officially released as a sequel to the first film that aired in 2000. With the distance of two films that are far apart, this film still delivers Sherina and Derby Romero once again to fans who miss the two.

Sherina's Adventure Film tells the story of Sherina (Sherina Munaf) and Sadam (Derby Romero) who are adventurous in elementary school. Then, how are the two 23 years later? The answer can be found through the second film.

Riri Riza and Mira Lesmana's ambitious project was also planned three years ago, when the pandemic just started. Those who initially wanted to reboot decided to continue the story considering Sherina and Derby are still willing to play the previous characters.

This sequel project is also arguably a reunion, because this film was written by Honest Prananto who co-wrote his first film. Sherina was also involved as a story development team and music director, something new from her first work.

The film Adventure Sherina 2 tells the story of Sherina (Sherina Munaf) who is an adult and works as a journalist. Sherina is projected to cover in Davos, Switzerland for an international economic forum. However, Sherina had to stop it because suddenly she was assigned to cover in the forest of Kalimantan.

A street with uncomfortable feelings, Sherina was surprised after meeting Sadam (Derby Romero) who now works as an NGO program manager for orangutan conservation. Sherina and Sadam are trying to be professional while they are also starting to share their lives.

After that, Sherina and Sadam found out that there were other parties who were trying to take the orangutan they had just released. As a result, Sherina and Sadam went through an adventure once again, not only saving themselves but also orangutans.

Sherina 2's Adventure Film does know who they should be leaning on: Sherina Munaf and Derby Romero. Watching the two of them feel like a reunion with an old friend because nothing has changed, both from their interaction to mymic and movement.

The presentation of mature songs and choreography was also supported by the second chemistry that can be called spilled. Sherina, who couldn't help but miss her, while Sadam, who often stole glances, cheered the audience, at least that's how we felt when screening the film Adventure Sherina 2 for the media earlier this week.

Ardit Erwandha's presence as Aryo is also the right element to support the reunion of Sherina and Sadam. You could say, the audience seemed to be in Aryo's position who always wanted to tease Sherina.

Sherina and Derby managed to revive the nostalgia that the audience had been waiting for. Evidently, Sherina's choice to take a little music composed by the late Elfa Secioria and bring it in the latest version also helped that nostalgic element.

If you miss Sherina and Sadam, then this film captures the interaction between the two withciamik. Again, the chemistry spilled over.

In terms of story, the issue of conservation is often the background of a storytelling. Interestingly, the premise is still connected to the reunion between Sherina and Sadam, which since childhood has an adventurer spirit. Although the issue of conservation is not always smooth, it can still be enjoyed.

Then, we are introduced to the married couple Ratih (Isyana Sarasvati) and Syailendra (Chandra Satria) who like to collect exotic animals. Their character may be a tribute to the characters Sis Natasya and Kertarajasa.

It seems that this film is trying to play it safe by repeating some of the formulas in the first film, but it feels like this sequel is still interesting with the fact that 23 years later, Sherina's adventure still fills that nostalgic space.

In terms of music, Sherina brings the baton of Elfa Seciora to work on her entire music. With a touch of music from Sherina's Adventure, this film also has some beautiful new numbers, Sayu said.
