After 14 Years, Omegle Messaging Service Will Officially Close
JAKARTA - After 14 years of launch, Leif K-Brooks as Founder, Omegle.com LLC announced that it would close Omegle services, messaging services that find users with strangers to chat with each other.
However, Brooks did not reveal many reasons in his announcement. He only said the closure occurred because of the many crimes that occurred, both psychologically and financially.
"There is no honest bookkeeping against Omegle without admitting that some people have abused it, including to commit heinous crimes," he said.
"Unfortunately, what's right doesn't always win. As much as I want the situation to be different, the pressure and costs of this fight coupled with the stress and cost of Omegle's operations, and against its abuse too much," he added.
In addition, Brooks also admitted to having a heart attack in his 30s. As additional information, Brooks admitted to creating Omegle when he was 18 years old.
Brooks also said that currently more and more online messaging services on the internet are growing. Despite having the same struggle, other companies can be quite large and able to survive various problems.

"Almost every online communication service experiences the same attacks as Omegle; and while some of them are much larger companies with much larger resources, they all have their peak somewhere," he explained.
In addition, according to a TechCrunch report, Omegle had received criticism after the service became a breeding ground for many pedophilist activities.
K-Brooks said his company had been trying to implement some improvements over the years, but the recent attacks had not had a constructive impact.
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who uses Omegle for a positive purpose, and to everyone who contributes to the success of the site in any way. Sorry, I can't keep fighting for you," the announcement concluded.
