SKK Migas Explains The Findings Of Giant Gas Reserves In East Kalimantan
JEMBER - Deputy for Exploitation of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Wahju Wibowo Djasmari explained the discovery of a giant gas reserve in the East Kalimantan sea area in early October 2023.
"The discovery of the North-1 Gang gas field in East Kalimantan is predicted to be the largest gas reserves in the world, so that it will spur gas production as energy transition to clean energy," he said in Jember Regency as reported by ANTARA, Friday, November 3.
According to him, the discovery prompted oil and gas companies operating in Indonesia to increase their production, so that they would require skilled workers who graduated from the Petroleum Engineering Study Program and graduated from the study program at other Faculty of Engineering.
"For this reason, the Petroleum Engineering Study Program needs to adapt to trends and conditions that are currently sweeping the world. As it is today, the tendency of the world to start moving towards clean energy and leave fossil-based energy gradually," he said.
The world of oil is not only related to the Petroleum Engineering Study Program because its operating scope is very wide, so it is one form of its contribution to the world of higher education is to actively socialize the role and function of SKK Migas.
"Then collaborate with universities. As today we are collaborating with Unej, helping to prepare a curriculum for the FT University Jember Petroleum Engineering Study Program when it is established," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of SKK Migas Jabanusa Nurwahidi in his speech said that the oil and gas production targets in his working area covering the islands of Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara could still be met.

He said that gas has great potential to become the prima donna of transitional energy in the future considering that its carbon content is smaller than petroleum, so that with the cooperation between SKK Migas and Jember University, his party hopes to produce various activities that are mutually beneficial for both parties.
"Starting from various scientific studies, internships for lecturers and students and other activities," he said.
