Google Tensor's AI Capabilities are Less Competitive with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
JAKARTA - Some of the newest phones are starting to use the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, but Google doesn't seem to be wavering. They still love their homemade chip, namely Tensor.
In fact, Tensor is one of Google's interesting breakthroughs. Since debuting in 2021 on the Pixel 6 generation, Tensor has showcased their Artificial Intelligence (AI) breakthroughs.
This AI capability continued to be developed until Google presented the Tensor G3 on the Pixel 8. However, the presence of Tensor this time was quite disappointing for many people because the AI it brought was not that good.
Quoting from 9to5google, several parties claim that the AI features on their Pixel 8 do not work smoothly. Some features such as the Magic Editor and AI wallpapers cannot be used without an internet connection.
Of course, this news is a disaster for Google, especially since Qualcomm has presented their newest Snapdragon chip. These Android phone flagship chips also showcase their AI capabilities.

Some of their capabilities even seem more interesting than the Tensor G3. In the Qualcomm demo, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a Photo Expansion feature which is capable of producing multiple images in a matter of seconds, of course without an internet connection.
Google certainly lost badly because the Tensor G3 still relies on an internet connection. Worse yet, their chip takes a long time just to create an AI wallpaper even though it uses the internet.
If you look at the bright side, Tensor still has a number of advantages such as much more energy efficient when booting up and a longer chip lifespan compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
However, Google must be careful for now. They have been showcasing the capabilities of AI in Tensor for years. If in the end, Tensor loses to Snapdragon, Google will need to make new changes so that some parties keep looking at Pixel.
