Medvedev Says the EU is No Longer Independent, Including in the European Region
JAKARTA - The European Union has lost its geopolitical autonomy not only in the international arena, but also in Europe, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
"Whatever European leaders say, de facto the European Union cannot act independently, not only in the international arena, but also in the European region. Practically, all EU countries stand firmly before the United States and Britain and begin to obediently comply "their orders, to support the Nazi regime in Kyiv. And now they fulfill any orders," Medvedev wrote on his VKontakte account, reported by TASS, October 30.
According to Medvedev, the dream of the European Union as a pillar of world order has disappeared because the bloc "lost its international authority as a mediator in any conflict".
Medvedev continued, European energy cooperation with Russia has long been stalled and now the European Union is experiencing difficult times.
"Europe has castrated itself, bloodily and without anesthesia, after refusing energy cooperation with our country. This has been frozen for a long time. And America is rubbing its hands because it sells its LNG to Europe at three times the price," Medvedev wrote.
He noted Europe's largest economies, once a driver of EU growth for years, have shown dramatic decline and will recover very slowly, if at all.
"And this is a grim prospect for the weaker countries of Western Europe. Hard times have been coming for a long time," he wrote.
Medvedev also highlighted the fact that the European Commission has lowered its forecast for eurozone economic growth in 2023 from 1.1 percent to 0.8 percent.
"Inflation in many EU countries is unreasonable. Food prices are rising and will continue to rise," he said.

Touching on other aspects of daily life in Europe, he noted that no one can guarantee that the coming winter will be both warm and mild.
"And this means that tariffs on thermal fuel and other goods will rise. Meanwhile American LNG, sold to Europe at three times the price, will not help much. Europe is finally abandoning the price policy that guaranteed European prosperity in a few years. Time has passed passed. Let them console themselves with the thought that they are no longer dependent on the energy of the hated Russia," concluded Medvedev.
