TERNATE - Ternate Class II Port Authority and Port Authority (KSOP) Office asked the speedboat operating to transport inter-island passengers in North Maluku (Malut) equipped with navigation tools in the form of communication equipment.
"In the future, all speedboats in North Maluku must have communication tools, so that if there is a problem in sailing they can contact the relevant agencies," said Head of KSOP Class II Ternate, Rushan Muhammad in Ternate, North Maluku, Tuesday, September 19, as reported by Antara.
So far, speedboat owners in North Maluku do not have communication tools, so sometimes if something happens, such as a dead machine or stuck in bad weather, usually reports from the families of passengers who report to the officers.
He said speedboat transportation has an important role in supporting smooth mobility of people in North Maluku, especially for close range, such as from Ternate City-Tidore Islands City, but passenger safety facilities are generally only life jackets.
So far, Rushan said, there are frequent speedboats that experience engine failures or are trapped in bad weather on shipping carrying passengers, but they cannot contact the authorities.

In the future, according to him, such incidents are expected not to happen again, after all the speedboats carrying passengers in North Maluku already have navigation tools and this has also been instructed by the Ministry of Transportation to provide comfort to the public.
"This is in accordance with the direction of the Minister of Transportation to provide guarantees to service users and the ships they use, including speedboats, which are already seaworthy," he said.
KSOP Ternate seeks to increase knowledge and skills for motorists of passenger carriers, so that in serving the community it always prioritizes safety and comfort to the community.
