List Of 16 Countries Qualified For Qatar's 2024 U-23 Asian Cup: Malaysia Wins Ticket Competition With Iran Dramatically
JAKARTA - The 2024 U-23 Asian Cup qualifying round has been completed on Tuesday, September 12. As a result, 16 countries have been confirmed to qualify for the final round in Qatar.
In addition to Qatar, which automatically passes because of its host status, here is a list of countries that will compete in the main round of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
Previously, there were 42 countries that competed for 15 tickets to the main round through the U-23 Asian Cup qualifying path which took place on September 6-12 2023. The tickets were given to 11 group winners and the four best runners-up.
Vietnam won the first qualifying status after they finished their second matchday on September 9. Two wins played in Group C over Guam and Yemen made The Golden Star entrenched at the top of the group standings.
After Vietnam qualified, there were 14 other countries that followed after the third matchday on Tuesday, September 12. 11 who qualified for Qatar with the status of group winners are Jordania, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the other four countries that stepped into the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup through the best runner-up route were Kuwait, Tajikistan, China, and Malaysia.
The best runner-up status is determined based on the acquisition of points, goal difference, productivity, level of sportsmanship or disciplinary and drawing points.
For the decision to pass Malaysia to the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, it is quite dramatic. The reason is that there must be a disciplinary point calculation between Malaysia and Iran, which both have 3 points, both scoring four goals and conceding once.
Luckily, Malaysia was able to advance to the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup thanks to a better disciplinary value than Iran.
