Regent Reminds 164 Village Heads In Manokwari Neutral To Face 2024 Election
WEST PAPUA - Manokwari Regent Hermus Indou emphasized that all village or village heads in his area are obliged to maintain neutrality ahead of the 2024 General Election.
"I remind all village heads to be upright with the duties and responsibilities given. Stay neutral in the political year or before the 2024 election," said Hermus in Manokwari, West Papua, Tuesday, September 12, which was confiscated by Antara.
Hermus explained that the duties and authorities of the village head have been regulated through Law Number 06 of 2014 concerning Villages. The task of the village head is to organize village governments, carry out village development, community development and community empowerment.
In the election, village heads are prohibited from doing practical politics, because later there will be offers from political parties (political parties) asking village heads to direct their citizens to vote for certain figures.
"I ask the village head not to ignore these requests. If there are political parties that force or influence the village head, they should not be complied with. Continue to carry out their duties in accordance with the applicable law," his duties.
Although it should not be involved in practical politics, the village head can still play his role in the success of political celebrations in the 2024 General Election. The village head can help election organizers to ensure that all citizens are registered as participants in the 2024 General Election.

Hermus added that such things must be the concern of the village head and all village officials. Do not let the residents cannot choose just because they have a different ID card from where they live.
Manokwari Regency currently consists of nine districts, nine urban villages and 164 villages or villages.
