Team Accelerate Legal Reform Results 55 Recommendations For President Jokowi

JAKARTA - The task of the Legal Reform Acceleration Team has been completed. The results are 55 short and long-term recommendations which will later be reported to President Joko Widodo.

"This has all been completed and remains to be tidied up. God willing, in the middle of next month, September, we will report this to the President because this acceleration team was made at the President's instructions to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs when there was various noise about the law," said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD who formed the Legal Reform Team during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Office, Jakarta, Tuesday.

Mahfud said that there are 55 recommendations that are short-term in nature addressed to related ministries/agencies, and some are long-term.

The recommendations come from four working groups in the Legal Reform Acceleration Team, namely the Judicial Reform and Law Enforcement Working Group, the Agrarian and Natural Resources Sector (SDA), the Prevention and Eradication of Corruption, and the Working Group of Legislation Regulations.

On the same occasion, he also proposed to the Legal Reform Acceleration Team that the recommendation be added.

"Later, when I read the details, I know where all this needs to be added to later become an official manuscript from this team to be implemented," said Mahfud.

Regarding long-term recommendations, Mahfud conveyed several, some of whom have entered the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). However, he has not been able to specify one by one the contents of the recommendation.

"Later we just have to modify the contents so that they are adjusted to the recommended needs of this team. As for maybe a new one, we convey it as a final memory of the task to the President. This has been thought of, and the way is like this, it continues to be handed over to the new government. It's normal in the government. There must be a relay like that," said Mahfud MD.

Mahfud MD formed a Team for the Acceleration of Legal Reform as regulated in the Decree (SK) of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Number 63/2023 on May 23, 2023.

The team consisted of directors, chairmen, deputy chairmen, secretaries, and four working groups.

The direction position is filled by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (ex-officio), team leaders by the Deputy for Legal and Human Rights Coordination (HAM) of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Sugeng Purnomo (ex-officio), Deputy Chair of Laode M Syarief (Ministry Executive Director), and the team secretary is the Deputy Secretary for Legal and Human Rights Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (ex-officio).

The inaugural meeting of the Legal Reform Acceleration Team took place on June 9, 2023 and was chaired directly by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.
