The Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office Detains 2 Suspects Of Corruption In The Bridge Project In Bintan
The Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati Kepri) has officially detained two suspects for alleged corruption in the construction of the Tanah Merah Bridge in Teluk Bintan District, Bintan Regency.The two suspects with the initials BW as the official commitment maker (PPK) and S as the provider of project goods/services as well as the Director of CV. Bina Mekar Lestari."Both of them have been detained at the Class I Tanjungpinang Detention Center for the next 20 days in order to undergo further legal proceedings," said Head of the Information and Law Section (Kasipenkum) of the Riau Islands Attorney General's Office, Denny Anteng Prakoso in Tanjungpinang, Antara, Tuesday, August 1.Denny said that the detention process for the two suspects BW and S was to speed up the investigation and filing process. The detention carried out by the Riau Islands Prosecutor's Investigation Team is based on the provisions of Article 21 Paragraph 4 of the Criminal Procedure Code.Subjectively, he said, it refers to concerns that the suspect will run away, destroy evidence or commit a crime."As an objective, the penalty is more than five years in prison," he said.He also emphasized that the detention of the two suspects BW and S was a follow-up to the seriousness of the Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office in resolving cases of alleged corruption in the construction of the Tanah Merah Bintan Bridge for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.Based on the results of the investigation, he continued, the alleged corruption case caused state losses of approximately Rp. 8 billion.The actions of the two suspects violated Primair Article 2 paragraph (1) Juncto Article 18 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption Juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code Subsidair Article 3 Juncto Article 18 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption Juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
The detention process for the two suspects BW and S has been carried out since Monday (31/7) night, after previously being examined by the Special Crime Investigation Team of the Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office.
