X Sues Non-profit Institutions Against Hate Speech, Here's Why

JAKARTA - Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday 31 July sued a non-profit agency battling hate speech and disinformation. Elon Musk's company accused the agency of spreading false claims and encouraging advertisers to stop investing on the platform.

US media previously reported that X, which is owned by Elon Musk, had sent a letter to the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) and threatened to sue the non-profit for undetermined losses.

In response to the letter, CCDH lawyers accused X of "intimidating those who have the courage to defend anti-violating, hate speech, and harmful content online." They also stated that X's accusations had no basis for facts.

The lawsuit stems from a media report published in July citing findings from a CCDH study stating that hate speech is increasing against the minority community on the platform.

X and its CEO, Linda Yaccarino, called the report fake and said the report was based on "misleading, misleading, and obsolete metric collections, mostly dating back to the period after Twitter was acquired."

In a blog post on Monday, X said that CCDH had accessed their data without permission and accused the agency of illegally taking data from their platform, violating X's terms.

X again stated that the metrics contained in the study were used outside the context to make unproven statements regarding X. While CCDH did not provide a response to requests for comment from the media, beyond normal working hours.

X recently also filed a lawsuit against four unnamed entities in Texas and Bright Data in Israel over illegal data collection.
