IKN Authority Explores Future City Development Cooperation With Shenzhen RRT

The Capital Authority of the Archipelago (OIKN) is exploring cooperation in building a future city with the City of Shenzhen of the People's Republic of China (RRT).

"To realize the vision as a smart and sustainable forest city, IKN continues to learn and absorb knowledge from various developed cities in the world," OIKN Head Bambang Susantono said in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 29.

Bambang also praised Shenzhen's transformation in the past four decades, which is still one of the references in the city planning field.

"With Nusantara as a new city being built in the early stages, it is appropriate to learn from Shenzhen's experience in planning and development as a new city in the last 40 years," he said.

Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) Bambang Susantono on Saturday (29/7) met with Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong to explore concrete cooperation agreed between the Government of Indonesia and the People's Republic of China (RRT).

This meeting is a follow-up to a meeting between the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Joko Widodo and the President of RRT Xi Jinping which agreed on closer cooperation between the two cities, the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) and Shenzen City on July 27, 2023.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) of cooperation between IKN and Shenzhen was signed on the sidelines of the meeting between President Joko Widodo and President of RRT Xi Jinping. This agreement was signed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B Pandjaitan together with OIKN Chief Bambang Susantono representing the Government of Indonesia, and National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Zheng Shanjie with Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong representing the Government of RRT.

The head of OIKN also met with the UPDIS (Urban Planning and Design Institute of Shenzhen), as an institution that participates in the development process of Shenzhen City. He also had the opportunity to review Shenzhen's command center, as well as witness the implementation of some of the latest technologies related to the smart city that has been developed in Shenzhen City.

In a meeting with the Chief of OIKN, the Mayor of Shenzhen shared his experience in building the city of Shenzhen, a city that has transformed from a small town to a metropolitan in the last 40 years.

Currently Shenzhen has become one of the 10 global financial centers, one of the best smart cities in the RRT, and has become a reference for the development of other cities in the world. Based on this experience, Mayor Shenzhen offered his support to participate in the development and development of IKN.

The Head of OIKN welcomed this offer, and stated that his party was open to collaborating to exchange knowledge, as well as encouraging investment between Shenzhen and IKN.
