US Senators Will Call AI Developers And Experts To Listen To Legislative Protection
JAKARTA - Senator Chuck Schumer, the majority leader of the US Senate, announced that US senators concerned about the evil potential of artificial intelligence (AI) will call developers, executives, and experts for hearings at a later date regarding the legislative protection that may be needed.
Schumer stated that there is a real interest from both sides in the AI issue, which will be important to make progress in establishing an AI law that encourages innovation but also has a safety mechanism to prevent potential risks that AI could lead to.
According to the report, Democratic and Republican senators have also expressed concern about the potential use of AI for creating biological weapons. Therefore, policymakers around the world are starting to consider how to reduce the AI's harm to national and economic security after the ability of a generating AI, which uses data to create new content like ChatGPT, attracts attention because it can answer complex questions with human-like language.

Schumer stated that senators had received information about AI exposure from experts from the US Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, and DARPA (Defense Continued Research Project Agency) on Wednesday, July 26. DARPA itself is an institution that has helped form the basics of the internet.
On the same day, Thursday, the Senate Administration's Domestic Security and Government Affairs Committee also voted to send a draft law to the Senate as a whole, which would place an AI chief officer in every federal institution and form a council for AI officers to coordinate in the use of AI technology that is developing in federal governance.
