This Former Nissan GTR Designer Said That The Electric Car Design, Which Is Now Circulating, Is Too Aggressive
JAKARTA - In the automotive industry, electric cars are future cars as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and create environmentally friendly vehicles.
As a future car, many car manufacturers are vying to present electric cars that have futuristic and aggressive designs. However, a different approach was taken by Shiro Nakamura, the former head of Nissan's creative official, who believes that electric car designs are currently too aggressive. He chose to create a new work that has a smoother look and is not "scaring".
Nakamura's task was to design an EV Sport 01 for a small Japanese company called AIM. Before joining AIM, he had designed various Nissan models, including 350Z and R35 GT-R.
In a recent interview with Top Gear, Nakamura said that he designed EV Sport 01 to have a distinctive appeal, something that cannot be said about many other EVs on the market.
"Cars can also have an attraction. I think at this time almost all cars - maybe Mini is an exception - but most EVs are focused on a strong and aggressive look. However, EV Sport 01 has no aggressive impression," he said, quoted from Carscoops, July 24.
He added that he and AIM boss Yukinori Suzuki had the same goal when creating EV Sport 01.
"We both have the same goal. It's not a big and heavy sports car. Even though it's compact, it's tall and fun to drive. Therefore, we made it with a clean and simple design. Natural, clean, and minimalist. You'll see that there is no contrast surface, and the face is very charming. It's not an aggressive face," he added.
Nakamura added that designing an electric car has a unique challenge compared to gasoline-fueled cars.
"I actually don't think about what kind of power the car has, but I see opportunities with EV designs because of the new layout and you can face challenges with different layouts," he added.
"In addition, the proportion of electric cars is not like gasoline-fueled cars. When you design a gasoline-fueled car, you have to clearly show where the engine is - the car with the engine in the middle has a special design, the car with the engine in front has a long bonnet. However, with an electric car, you have more freedom. You have greater challenges to express your strength and energy," he concluded.
