Google Testing Faster Photo Sending Feature In Messages, But With Reduced Resolution
JAKARTA - It is claimed that Google is working on a feature that can send pictures faster in the Messages application, but with a lower resolution.
The feature hasn't rolled out to everyone yet but appears to be only being offered to a small group of testers. As per the option description "Send Photos Faster" but "Resolution is reduced for faster delivery".
This means that, just like other messaging applications, Google Messages will lower the image quality to send it more quickly through Rich Communication Services (RCS).
RCS is Google's version of iMessage that allows two Android users running the messaging platform to share messages with a larger character limit and end-to-end encryption.
Further, the new feature could also be useful for those on a limited data plan, or in low service areas (large crowds) where sending large files is not possible.

This is because RCS works by first uploading images to the cloud, much like a backup service. However, Google hasn't shared any details about the maximum size of attachments that can be sent via Google Messages RCS.
This feature is enabled by default, as reported by several users who noticed this new feature in their Google Messages app.
A new option will appear in the Settings menu between the Bubbles and Hear Outgoing And Incoming Message Sounds options. To give it a try, open the app, click on the profile picture in the top right, and tap the Settings menu.
If the option is available, then the feature will be the fifth item from the top. Make sure you are running the latest version of the application. This was quoted from Phone Arena, Wednesday, April 12.
