KY Still Verifying Alleged Violation of Judge Ethics in the Adjuvant Case
JAKARTA - The Judicial Commission (KY) said the alleged violation of ethics by the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court (PN) who tried the Kanjuruhan case is still in the verification stage.
"Until now, this monitoring has been carried out. However, now it is still at the verification stage", said Head of the KY Judge Supervision and Investigation Division Joko Sasmito in a press conference reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 12.
Joko said there were no reports from the public regarding alleged violations by the judge who tried the Kanjuruhan case. However, KY continues to monitor the alleged violation of ethics.
"Indeed there were no reports from the public. However, because it received the attention of the public, KY took steps to carry out monitoring", said Joko.
In a trial that was held at the Surabaya District Court, Thursday March 13, the panel of judges handed down a sentence against former Danki 3 Brimob East Java Regional Police Hasdarmawan for 1.5 years in prison. This sentence was lower than the demands of the prosecutor who demanded a criminal sentence of 3 years in prison.
Meanwhile, two other accused police officers, namely former Head of the Samapta Unit AKP Bambang Sidik Achmadi and former Head of Operations Section of the Malang Police, Commissioner Wahyu Setyo Pranoto, were even acquitted.

In the previous hearing, the defendant Abdul Haris, who is the chairman of the Arema FC Pelpel, was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison, lower than the prosecutor's demands of 6 years and 8 months in prison. Meanwhile, the defendant Suko Sutrisno was sentenced to 1 year in prison which was also lower than the 6 years and 8 months in prison demanded by the public prosecutor.
National Human Rights Commission supports the public prosecutor's appeal against the decision of the Surabaya District Court against three police defendants in connection with the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.
The Kanjuruhan tragedy was caused by tear gas fired by officers into the stands at the Kanjuruhan Stadium during the Arema FC football match against Persebaya Surabaya, October 1, 2022. At least 135 people died as a result of this incident.
