Be Alert, Central Java Has The Potential For Extreme Weather Until April 6

CILACAP - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts extreme weather conditions covering parts of Central Java Province from 4 to 6 April 2023 and urges residents to be aware of the possibility of a hydrometeorological disaster during that period.

"Based on data released by the  Ahmad Yani Meteorology Station in Semarang, the potential for extreme weather is in the form of moderate to heavy rainfall that can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds," said Head of the BMKG Technician Group at the Tunggul Wulung Cilacap Meteorology Station Teguh Wardoyo as reported by ANTARA, Monday, April 3rd.

According to him, the extreme weather on Tuesday April 4 has the potential to cover the regencies of Cilacap, Kebumen, Temanggung, Wonosobo, Purbalingga, Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Semarang, Salatiga, Boyolali, Batang, Pekalongan, Magelang, Karanganyar, Sragen, Grobogan, Blora, Brebes, and its surroundings.

On Wednesday April 5, extreme weather has the potential to occur in Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Temanggung, Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang, Pekalongan, Salatiga, Boyolali, Klaten, Karanganyar, Sragen, as well as Magelang Regency and City.

Furthermore, extreme weather conditions are predicted to cover Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Kebumen, Magelang, Klaten, Karanganyar, Pati, Kudus, and Blora Regencies on Thursday April 6.

Teguh explained based on the results of an analysis of atmospheric dynamics, the potential for extreme weather arises due to patterns of wind bends and wind encounters in the Central Java region.

"In addition, warm sea surface temperatures in Central Java waters and relatively unstable air humidity and fairly wet air have the potential to cause moderate to heavy rains which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in some areas of Central Java," he said.

He urged residents to be aware of the possibility of disaster due to extreme weather conditions such as floods, landslides, hail, and strong winds or tornadoes during Tuesday April 4 to Thursday April 6.
