Supporting Global Sustainable Maritime Business, PIS Attends High Level Meeting At UN Headquarters

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) attended an exclusive high-level meeting of the United Nations (UNited Nations) to discuss a sustainable maritime business and answer challenges related to the issue of climate change from the marine side.

The meeting, which was attended by PIS, was part of the 78th UN general assembly and a series of High Level Ocean Meetings held by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). This meeting was attended by, among others, heads of state, CEOs of industrial companies engaged in the marine business, government representatives, and other stakeholders who have a key role to boost sustainable maritime business.

Delegation of representatives from Indonesia in this high-level exclusive meeting is PIS, Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas, PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, and others.

PIS as a member of the UNC attended this meeting as a form of the company's commitment to running a sustainable business. PIS has also compiled a business roadmap that supports Indonesia's net zero emissions target by 2060, and always prioritizes environmental aspects in operations," said PIS CEO Yoki Firnandi, who was also present at the meeting, Monday, September 18.

Not only participating in the meeting, PIS also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the UNDC Ocean Stewardship Coalition and the Indonesian government, which took place simultaneously at the meeting.

As is known, UNGC is a UN organization that focuses on encouraging its members to implement sustainable business in accordance with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

PIS has officially become a member of the UNC since February 2023 and has implemented a number of programs in line with SDG's principles, including social responsibility that preserves the sea.

PIS' ongoing business commitment includes the presence of VLGC Amaryllis, which is one of the largest gas tankers in the world, and the first double-fueled ship in Indonesia and Pertamina. The operation of this ship is also able to reduce emissions by up to 12 thousand tons per year.

"In addition to the operational side, PIS also has a program to preserve the sea by helping the government in whale shark conservation or whaleshark, which plays a major role in marine ecosystems," Yoki added.
