As A Result Of The Illegal IMEI Case, Spokesperson For The Ministry Of Industry Urges Employees To Avoid Conflict Of Interest

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Febri Hendri Antoni Arif appealed to all employees in the relevant ministries to avoid conflicts of interest in carrying out their duties.

This is the result of the illegal International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) registration case in the Centralized Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system some time ago.

"We still urge that in working it is in accordance with existing regulations, avoid conflicts of interest, continue to avoid corruption," Febri told reporters at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 31.

Febri said his party was ready to follow all existing legal processes.

Moreover, there are Ministry of Industry employees who have been named as suspects in the case.

"We respect the legal process at Bareskrim and we really appreciate Bareskrim," he said.

He added that the Ministry of Industry will continue to follow the steps that will be taken by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police in the future.

"We just follow Bareskrim, but basically we still appreciate the investigation by Bareskrim," concluded Febri.

As previously reported, Bareskrim Polri will turn off 191,000 cellphones recorded using illegal International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI).

However, the implementation was after coordination with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).

"Regarding the shutdown of 191,000, coordination and communication with various parties are still being carried out," said Director of Cyber Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency Brigadier General Adi Vivid when confirmed, Tuesday, August 1.

"The one in charge is related to IMEI registration and cellphone providers," he continued.

The purpose of the coordination is to find a method to kill hundreds of thousands of cellphones with the illegal IMEI. So, later it will not harm the community.

In this case, Bareskrim has named six suspects, two of whom are employees of the Ministry of Industry and the Director General of Customs and Excise.

The two people who work in their respective government agencies with the initials F are the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of the Ministry of Industry and A employee of the Director General of Customs and Excise.

Meanwhile, the other four suspects are private parties who act as suppliers of illegal electronic devices without rights in the entry stage. They have the initials P, D, E, and P.
