Minister Of PUPR: Provision Of Housing For The Community Must Continue

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the provision of housing for the community must continue.

"Currently, the government continues to encourage stakeholders in the housing sector to build community houses through the One Million Houses Program. The construction of subsidized houses and non-subsidized or commercial houses is basically the spirit of the Ministry of PUPR and working partners in serving and providing decent houses for the community," Basuki said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 28.

Basuki said the Commemoration of National Housing Day (Hapernas) must be interpreted by all stakeholders in the housing sector to maintain the spirit of serving the community, especially in providing decent houses for the community.

"Moreover, houses or boards are one of the basic needs of the community that must be met in addition to clothing and food," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Housing at the Ministry of PUPR, Iwan Suprijanto, said that the Government commemorates National Housing Day (Hapernas) every August 25.

The construction of housing is considered to be well achieved if good collaboration is realized between stakeholders in the housing sector.

"The historical milestone of National Housing Day began with the Healthy People's Housing Congress on August 25-30, 1950, and since 2008 we have set it as National Housing Day," said Iwan.

Every August 25 is a momentum to remind the mandate of the Father of National housing, namely Bung Hatta, in the 1950 Healthy People's Housing Congress. At that activity, Bung Hatta stated that the ideals of public housing can be achieved if all parties are serious about wanting and trying with full confidence.

The theme raised in the 15th National Housing Day Commemoration in 2023 is 'Continuing Collaboration to Create Decent, Sustainable, and Affordable Housing Day For All'. The choice of this theme shows that efforts to fulfill decent housing still require collaboration and roles from various parties.

"Through this year's Hapernas commemoration, we want to remind and encourage efforts to collaborate between housing stakeholders so that they work hand in hand to provide a decent, sustainable, and affordable home for all," said Iwan.
