Tencent Holdings, a technology company from China, announced on Thursday August 3 that it has started internal testing of its own developed artificial intelligence (AI) model, which is currently being integrated with a number of company's internal services and products.

In a statement sent to Reuters on Thursday, Tencent said that their basic AI models named "Hunyuan" had been integrated with a variety of products such as Tencent Cloud, Tencent Meeting, and Tencent Docs.

"The big Tencent Hunyuan model, which was fully developed from the start by ourselves, has now entered the app testing phase within the company," the company said in a statement.

The move comes after Chinese regulators published interim rules on a generative AI last month, paving the way for Chinese technology companies such as Tencent and Alibaba to launch products with AI features as early as August after obtaining approval.

AI has been the main focus for Tencent in recent months. Reuters first reported on the company's efforts to develop the Hunyuan model in February. In a call with analysts in May, Tencent stated that AI would be a significant "growth multiplier".

On Thursday, Tencent also listed Tencent Games, Tencent Advertising, QQ Browser, WeChat Search, and Tencent Fintech as business lines that have recently tested the Hunyuan model.

"Initial results have been achieved, and more businesses and apps are in the process of being connected to this model," said the Shenzhen-based company.
