JAKARTA - While Twitter is busy implementing daily limits for viewing tweets, its competitor Mastodon is rolling out a redesign of Material You into its Android app.
In his announcement, quoted Tuesday, July 4, Mastodon founder and CEO Eugen Rochko said his social media will now feature dozens of ways to customize the user experience in the new settings screen.
These range from changing the default post language, reminding users to add alternative text to media posts, to hiding all content alerts, adders or counters and favorites which are exactly like retweets on Twitter.
In the Mastodon version of the Android app, users can now access information about the server they are connected to and view its rules.
Rochko explained that the profile screen now ergonomically displays all the featured content that was previously missing from the app, such as pinned posts, featured hashtags and supported users.

Apart from that, Mastodon also added filter management to the app. Where users can now view, edit, create filters for specific phrases or keywords, and customize how and where exactly those filters are applied.
"So if there's a topic you don't want to hear, you can ignore it. We've also added the ability to pause all notifications," said Rochko.
Lastly, one subtle but important change according to Rochko is where and how Mastodon displays verification.
"If a profile has a verified link, we'll show it in search results and other listings so you can distinguish different profiles more easily," explains Rochko.
"Overall, this is just the surface of all the changes in this redesign. There are more features, bug fixes and easter eggs that we didn't cover. You should give Mastodon a try."
