JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz on Thursday, June 15 announced that drivers in the United States could use the ChatGPT to operate some of their luxury vehicles in a trial program that began on June 16.

ChatGPT, which is compatible with about 900.000 vehicles equipped with the "MBUX" system from Mercedes, will be downloaded via internet after the driver selects via the Mercedes app or with voice commands. This trial program will last for three months, where Mercedes will see how drivers use this technology.

Mercedes says ChatGPT will make the vehicle system response sound more natural and allow drivers to ask questions about purpose information or other questions, such as recipes for dinner.

Previously, the automaker had allowed drivers and passengers to give various orders in voice, such as turning on the seat heater.

The collaboration with ChatGPT also brings benefits to Microsoft, which provides this popular chatbot version through their cloud services.

Amazon.com has also long sought to install their Alexa voice assistants in more cars, and now Microsoft is providing alternatives through its investment in ChatGPT creator OpenAI.

In a press release, the German automaker said drivers could not only give orders with the phrase "Hey Mercedes", but could also chat with their car.

In a separate blog, Microsoft stated that the ongoing integration, known as plug-in, could later allow drivers to book restaurant reservations, buy film tickets, and perform other tasks from behind the wheel.

The results of this trial program will form the basis for Mercedes' plans to add this kind of artificial intelligence to other countries and in other languages, the company said, quoted by Reuters. Sound data will be stored, converted into anonymous data, and analyzed in the Mercedes cloud.

General Motors also announced in March that it was exploring the use of in-vehicle ChatGPT as part of a broader partnership with Microsoft.
