JAKARTA - Meta is reported to be developing a Twitter competitor that will stand alone. A new leak shows how it will look and how it can sync with other apps.

As Lia Haberman from IYCMI reports via her official Twitter, the new Instagram text-based social media application currently has internal code names P92, Project 92, or Barcelona.

Haberman reportedly got access to creators the company contacted to showcase the upcoming app. And right now, Meta claims to be testing the project with celebrities and influencers.

In fact, the new app has been available for months. The current product tagline is, Instagram for your thoughts.

Claimed to launch in June, the app will be built on the back of Instagram, and feature a feed that looks very similar to Twitter as well as Mastodon.

According to the Haberman report, users can post text updates of up to 500 characters along with photos and videos, longer than the 280 characters limit of non-Twitter Blue users.

The application will also offer four main features, namely the ability to talk directly to the audience and colleagues.

Not only that, the application will also integrate with Instagram, so that users can synchronize their existing followers on Instagram and every word or person that has been blocked on Instagram will be carried over.

Meta will enforce the same Community Guidelines as in other apps in the new text-based app to ensure everyone interacts safely and authentically.

Furthermore, this new app can attach links, photos, videos up to 5 minutes long, engage with likes, replies, and reposts. Plus, it's compatible with other apps like Mastodon.

If this app will be compatible with Mastodon, it means that it will be partly built using ActivityPub, the technology that powers fediverse. Finally, Meta also promises to focus on user safety and security.

To enter this application, users can use Instagram usernames and passwords. This was quoted from BGR and PetaPixel, Sunday, May 21.
