The Story Of Muhammad Ali's Grandson, Who Is More Curious About MMA Even Though He Is Surrounded By Boxers More Often

JAKARTA - Biaggio Ali Walsh is a fighter from the lineage of the boxing legend, Muhammad Ali. Having tried his dream in the NFL, he then gave up and is now taking part in the MMA event.

Biaggio got a scholarship to play "American football" in California. After moving back to Las Vegas in hopes of getting another scholarship, he found playing time hard to come by.

He also began to switch to the world of MMA. Biaggio has started training in MMA after his NFL hopes were dashed in the 2019 season.

At the age of 21, he decided to focus on MMA. After the lockdown due to COVID-10, he has been training more regularly and has made him find a new passion.

Biaggio told SunSport, "When everything was shut down, that's when I started training in my garage."

"My brother actually helped out a lot too, he pointed out certain things he knew about boxing. But when the gym opened back up, that's when I started training again and that's how it went," he added.

However, Biaggio's step is far from his close lineage with the world of boxing. His grandfather, Muhammad Ali, is a worldwide icon of this sport.

Ali's daughter, Laila Ali who is Biaggio's aunt, is an undefeated two-weight world champion. Meanwhile, Biaggio's brother, Nico, is currently thriving in the middleweight division.

But despite being surrounded by boxers since birth, MMA is what Biaggio is most curious about.

"This (MMA) has caught my attention since high school. I enjoy MMA, I enjoy that there are so many martial arts that can play a role in fighting," he said.

"It's just something I enjoy. Even when I'm playing football I'm in the garage practicing kicks and stuff. It's just something I enjoy watching."

"Boxing too, I grew up watching boxing, I've been surrounded by boxing all my life but there's something about MMA that I really like because there are a lot of martial arts. There are so many ways to win or lose, there are so many possibilities in MMA and it's really made me curious," added Biaggio again.
