JAKARTA - One more increase in automotive manufacturers confirms that they will adopt Tesla's charging system, North American Charging Standard (NACS), namely Nissan.
In a complete step towards electric vehicles, Nissan has reached an agreement with Tesla to use NACS starting in early 2025 on one of its EV models, namely Ariya.
Nissan North America president, Jeremie Papin, stated that the decision to adopt Tesla charging demonstrates Nissan's commitment to creating vehicles operating on electric power to reduce emissions and support Nissan's plans to completely switch to electrification by 2030.
"We are pleased to provide access to thousands of charging stations more quickly for Nissan EV drivers, who will increase confidence and comfort as they plan long-distance travel," Papin said in a statement, Wednesday, July 19.
In addition, starting in 2024, Nissan will also provide a Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) adapter for DC fast charging compatible with the Ariya SUV.
Exactly in 2025, Nissan will offer EV models for the US and Canadian markets that can connect with NACS, so that more and more Tesla Supercharging charging stations will be used. With this approval, it is hoped that public charging locations will grow.
Nissan's electrification plan, known as "Ambition 2030", aims to make more than 40 percent of Nissan's total vehicle sales come from electric cars by 2030. This plan also includes the presence of the two newest models to be assembled at the Canton plant, Mississippi, USA, by the end of 2025.

Nissan is an addition to the list of automakers who will use Tesla Supercharging charging stations for their electric vehicles. Previously, Mercedes-Benz had already agreed to use this technology in US territory. In addition, Volvo will also adopt this technology starting in 2025 in support of its plans to completely switch to electric cars. Not only that, two other US automotive manufacturers, Ford and General Motors (GM), will also use NACS on their EV models.
