JAKARTA - South Korea's automotive market has again been hit by a mass recall involving seven leading brands and covering 320,000 affected vehicles.

The five manufacturers are Hyundai Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz Korea Co., Kia Corp., GM Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, Ford Sales & Service Korea, and FMK which houses the Ferrari and Maserati brands in Ginseng Country.

According to a South Korean media report, Yonhap, on Wednesday, June 21, the number of affected vehicles reached 326,723 units with 22 models involved.

This recall was carried out due to various problems in each vehicle. One of them is the failure of the seat belt system in the Genesis G80 sedan.

In addition, the Mercedes-Benz S580 4 Matic sedan is experiencing problems with the stability electronic control software. The Ferrari 296 GTB was also affected by problems with the fuel tank connecting pipe.

This is not the first time the Ferrari 296 GTB has recalled. Previously, the 425 cars had been recalled due to the same problem that could potentially cause a fire.

This recall is also the latest in a series of recalls carried out by companies marketing their products in South Korea. Four companies have previously recalled several of their vehicle models.

The four companies are Kia Corp., Volkswagen Group Korea, Ford Sales and Service Korea, and Stellantis Korea, which recalled 54,412 units earlier this June.

Some of the affected models include VW ID.4 which had problems with the door locking system, Kia Ray with dashboard software problems, as well as Jeep Grand Cherokee which had problems with the transmission intermediary axis.

The recurrence of this recall shows the importance of vehicle safety and quality that automotive manufacturers must always pay attention to.
