JAKARTA - The full autonomous driving technology on vehicles is still considered impossible to implement at this time. But soon the technology is believed to be applied on the streets.
Recently, Porsche upgraded autonomous driver technology in collaboration with Israeli startup, Mobileye.
Mobileye has previously worked with Tesla to create a first-generation Tesla autopilot system. However, the partnership ended in 2016 and Mobileye a year later was purchased by Intel.
Mobileye has teamed up with dozens of automakers, including Volkswagen, BMW, Honda, Nissan, and Geely, a Chinese automotive group that owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, and London Electric Vehicle Company, a London city electric taxi manufacturer.
Porsche said that future cars will offer automatic and functional assistance based on the SuperVision Mobileye technology platform. The German company added that its system will be integrated and adjusted by Porsche engineers. The system that monitors driver attention will also be adjusted by specialists within the company.
Porsche added that autonomous driver assistance could be a fairly controversial problem among sports car drivers like the one sold by Porsche.
"In most situations, drivers will continue to want to drive their own Porsche cars in the future and be able to do so at any time. However, there are several aspects where drivers can entrust autonomously. SuperVision Mobileye technology can help drivers in their daily situations, for example when they are tired of dealing with traffic jams," said Michael Steiner, head of development for Volkswagen Group in charge of Porsche, quoted from Forbes, Wednesday, May 10.

Mobileye's SuperVision system technology is capable of monitoring the environment with eleven cameras and support radars, including remote cameras at the front, side cameras, rear cameras, surround parking cameras, long-range radars, angular radars, and front cameras facing forward.
Furthermore, Porsche explained that with SuperVision Mobileye, cars can follow the navigation route chosen by the driver, change lanes autonomously, and automatically overtake slower vehicles on the road.
