Kanci-Pejagan Toll Accident KM 223 Injures 5 People, Allegedly Due To Driver Negligence

The Cirebon City Police (Polresta) revealed that the alleged negligence of the bus driver was one of the causes of the single accident on the Kanci-Pejagan KM 223 toll road on Sunday, December 15 afternoon.

The head of the Cirebon Police Traffic Unit, Kompol Mangku Anom Sutresno, said that in this accident the bus bound for Jakarta-Yogyakarta was traveling at high speed without braking.

He explained that based on CCTV camera footage, the bus driven by the driver named Mujianto did not reduce the speed when approaching the scene.

"From the CCTV analysis, the bus with the AD 7178 OF plate drove above 60 km/h without braking, even though other drivers had slowed down the speed of vehicles," he said in Cirebon, Monday, December 16, which was confiscated by Antara.

He confirmed from the results of the analysis, it was suspected that the single accident had led to the negligence of the driver as the cause of the accident.

However, his party is still conducting further investigations regarding the accident that occurred on the Kanci-Pejagan toll road.

There were no fatalities in this incident, but there were five people who suffered serious and minor injuries. The victims have been rushed to Waled Hospital, Cirebon for treatment," he said.

Anom appealed to public transportation companies to ensure road-worthy vehicles and not to carry passengers excessively, in order to prevent similar incidents.

In addition, he emphasized that public transportation vehicles that are already overcapacity and load must be repaired immediately so as not to trigger potential accidents.

The police have also increased the intensity of public vehicle feasibility checks in all Cirebon areas, ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays.

"We ask public vehicle entrepreneurs to ensure that their vehicles are ready to go because the safety of many people must be prioritized," he said.
