Medan City Still Needs 30 Thousand Street Lights

The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution said that realizing Medan Terang requires 124,038 public street lighting points (LPJU) in this area.

"Currently there are only 90 thousand street lighting in Medan City, while what is needed is around 124,000 street lighting points," said Bobby in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 4.

This means, he continued, only about 70 percent of the number of public street lighting to illuminate the entire capital area of North Sumatra Province.

Data from the Medan City Transportation Service in March stated that Medan City had operated 94,312 LPJU points, and 20,963 LPJU points, including LED types.

"Including, we need the presence of the LED lights which are currently still at 15 percent," said Bobby when opening public consultations and market sounding of government projects with road lighting enterprises (APJ) and smart roadway monitoring systems in Medan City.

The mayor also revealed that budget constraints are one of the reasons, so it is necessary to do a number of things and collaborations by presenting APJ, including government cooperation with business entities (KPBU).

"This KPBU is the first in the city of Medan. We hope that everything can run smoothly in its implementation and benefit the community," he explained.

As for what must be upheld in the implementation of LPJU in Medan City, he stressed, is transparency and the intention of accelerating it in its activities.

Bobby appreciated the central government to the Medan City Government in public consultations and the Sounding market which was attended by representatives of the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency and the KPBU team virtually.

"Hopefully this PPP will not only stop at street lighting. But it will also penetrate the health sector, including supporting 'ducking' efforts in Medan City and other programs," he said.
