Air Temperatures In Bandung Are Colder Even Though They Are Still In Drought, This Is BMKG's Explanation

BANDUNG - The Bandung City Meteorology, Climatology, Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said, it is natural that air temperatures can be colder during dryness, as happened in Bandung in recent days. Head of BMKG Bandung City Teguh Rahayu explained, based on his notes, in the last five days, the minimum temperature in Bandung City touched 17 degrees Celsius which was under normal conditions. "This cold temperature is a natural phenomenon that is common during the peak of the dry season in July-August, which we can see in the past few days," said Teguh Rahayu in Bandung, Antara, Thursday, July 20. Ayu revealed, from the record from July 14-18, 2023, the temperature of Bandung City had increased from 19 degrees to 20 degrees Celsius, but on July 18 there was a decrease in temperature to 17 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum normal temperature in July was 18.2 degrees Celsius, and in August the value was 17.5 degrees Celsius. Ayu explained that cold temperatures under normal conditions tend to have the opportunity to occur during the dry season, especially at night. Because during the dry season, during the day, the sun is very hot because there is no cloud cover, as a result the earth's surface receives maximum radiation. Meanwhile, at night, the earth will release energy because there are no clouds. Therefore, at night until early morning, radiation stored on the earth's surface will be maximally released. "This condition then causes the earth's surface to cool quickly due to maximum energy loss. The impact is the minimum temperature or cold air which is extreme at night until early morning," he said. In addition, according to Ayu, another cause whose air temperature cools when the peak of the dry season is due to winter in the Australian region. There is a relatively high pattern of air pressure in Australia, causing the movement of cold air to Indonesia or better known as the Australian Monsun Wind. "This is also the main cause of the dry season in Indonesia. This Australian Monsun wind brings cold temperatures in the Australian region to the territory of Indonesia in the BBS region (Belahan Bumi Selatan)," he said. He said the phenomenon of this cold temperature will empirically last until August 2023, and in early September it will gradually warm up again. Therefore, Ayu appealed to all people, especially in the city of Bandung not to worry about seeing this phenomenon, because cold temperatures at the peak of the dry season are a natural phenomenon, especially for Indonesian territory in the southern part of the earth.
