Jokowi: Visits To Australia And PNG Can Reduce Conflict

JAYAPURA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that visits to Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) can reduce conflicts and desires of certain groups.

"I have spoken from heart to heart so that it is hoped that visits to the two countries can reduce certain conflicts and desires," Jokowi hoped as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

The President after opening the Papua Street Carnival which was centered in the area of the Dok II Jayapura Governor's Office said that his visit to Australia and PNG was expected to increase cooperation in the economic sector, especially mining, industry and streaming or downstreaming and establish good relations with the two countries.

"Whatever it is, the two countries, both Australia and PNG, are very influential in our region," said Jokowi.

Meanwhile, scientists from the Faculty of International Relations at Cenderawasih University, Mariana Bunay, separately said that President Jokowi's visit to Australia and PNG gave an overview to friends who moved with their own ideology because they wanted to escape from the Republic of Indonesia for reasons of justice, human rights violations and human rights as well as the prospect of their struggle going forward.

"These groups will see whether Indonesia is able to create justice to cooperate with Australia, for example in the field of human resource development or cooperation in the economic field," he said.

Likewise, he said, with a return visit to PNG, would it have an impact on a better welfare process, including in terms of education and the economy in Papua.

"They will think about their struggle, whether to stick with their ideology or change their future strategy, for example fighting for justice not through separatists but participating in education and participating in economic activities in their respective regions," said Mariana.
