BPOM Jambi Destroys Illegal Medicine Worth IDR 1.6 Billion

Jambi's Center for Drug and Food Control (BPOM) destroyed thousands of illegal foods and drugs worth Rp1.6 billion from the disclosure or operation for four years from 2019-2022.

The destruction was carried out in the courtyard of the Jambi BPOM Office, Thursday, witnessed by a member of Commission IX DPR RI Sutan Adil Hendra and elements of the local Forkopimda, because the evidence was the result of the operation of a joint BPOM team with cross-sectors related.

During almost four years, 7,374 items or about 422,960 pieces were found with a nominal value of Rp1.6 billion, which was dominated by 35 percent cosmetics, 31 percent traditional medicine, 22 percent medicine and 13 percent food.

"The follow-up given to these violations is in the form of administrative sanctions, warnings, stern warnings and making statements or sanctions in the form of pro justitia," said Head of BPOM Jambi Alex Sander as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 15.

In connection with pro justitia sanctions, there are 19 cases that have been handled by BPOM civil servant investigators in Jambi with a total of 2,164 pieces of evidence or about 227,645 pieces with a nominal value of Rp. 845,710,800.

"A total of 18 cases are in stage 2 and one case is in stage P21," he said.

The destruction was carried out against evidence of criminal acts in the form of traditional medicines without distribution permits and containing 3 items of medicinal chemicals or 2,564 pieces with the current case position being P21.

"In addition, the destruction was also carried out on the findings of the results of BPOM supervision in Jambi throughout 2019-2022, which amounted to 3,069 items or 195,325 pieces with an estimated economic value of Rp761,271,000," said Alex.

For information, the destruction of evidence is carried out in two stages. The first stage is June 15 and the second stage is in July. Destruction of evidence is carried out in two ways, namely burning and destroying. For types of food, they are destroyed by burning while medicines and cosmetics are destroyed by destroying them using a blender.
