JAKARTA - Russia launched its latest airstrikes on Ukraine overnight, killing at least one person in a combined cruise missile and drone strike, Ukrainian authorities said.

The Ukrainian military reportedly shot down four of the six missiles launched in the attack, which the air force said lasted about six hours, as well as 10 of the 16 drones.

The Interior Ministry said one person was killed, three injured, and four buildings destroyed by falling debris.

The ministry uploaded images on the Telegram messaging app showing firefighters handling the rubble of the burning building, which appears to be people's homes.

Separately, the air force also said two cruise missiles had hit a civilian object in central Ukraine, Cherkasy, in an attack on Thursday night.

Regional Governor Ihor Taburets said at least eight people were injured in the attack, which he said hit a car wash and an industrial object.

Moscow has in recent weeks stepped up regular airstrikes against Ukraine.

This was done in line with Kyiv preparing to counterattack, to try to retake Russia's occupied territory.
