BATAM - A woman drowned while swimming at Sekilak Beach, Nongsa District, Batam City, Riau Islands.
"The victim was a woman. She died after drowning while swimming in the sea with two of her friends," said Nongsa Police Chief Kompol Fian Agung Wibowo as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 24.
According to eyewitnesses at the location, at around 11.00 WIB, the victim and his friends swam in the sea which was approximately 30 meters from the shoreline and at that time the sea was receding, so it wasn't too deep.
However, after an hour of swimming, the sea water had started to rise. The victim and his friends had time to swim to the beach. But the victim couldn't swim and suddenly drowned.
The victim's friend who saw the incident immediately shouted for help. The coast guard and local residents who heard it immediately tried to find the drowning victim.
