DENPASAR - The Immigration Office in Bali has deported 123 foreign nationals from 35 countries during the period January to May 19, 2023 for committing various violations.

"They have violated the laws and norms in Bali," said Head of the Immigration Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bali Province Barron Ichsan during a meeting of the Foreigner Supervision Team (Pora) in Denpasar as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 22.

Based on Bali Immigration data, since the international arrivals in Bali reopened from May to December 2022, the deportation of foreigners through Bali reached 194 people.

Deportation was carried out because the foreigners misused residence permits, passed residence permits and committed criminal acts that violated the norms in force in Bali. They are from Russia, Nigeria, and Ukraine.

Barron explained that the control of foreign tourists or foreigners is expected to encourage the presence of quality foreign tourists in Bali.

According to him, the main problem in Bali is foreign tourists who have low spending and some of them are not in an orderly manner.

"Of course we want to change this by controlling foreign tourists so that it can encourage an increase in quality foreign tourist visits," he said.

He also invited the Pora Team to continue to synergize with related officials in supporting higher quality Balinese tourism.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Police Operations Bureau, Police Commissioner Nuryanto, said that foreign nationals committed many traffic violations, including not wearing standard helmets and wearing fake police license plates.

The vehicle number plate is filled with names and phone numbers so that the police encourage collaboration and active participation of the entire Pora team.

The Bali Provincial Government is currently preparing regional regulations regarding the implementation of quotas for foreign tourist arrivals whose goal is to encourage quality tourists.

"The control of tourists is so that tourism is not mass, as we have seen recent cases. Therefore, a quota system will be applied for foreign tourists visiting Bali," said Bali Governor Wayan Koster some time ago.

Currently, regulations are being discussed by local governments to determine the number of foreign tourists in Bali.

The number of foreign tourists who came to the Island of the Gods before the COVID-19 pandemic reached around 6.3 million people in 2019.

Koster gave a signal that the regulation would later regulate certain criteria including limiting the number of foreign tourists to at least the amount of money in savings accounts owned by foreign tourists before they flew to Bali.
