JAKARTA - PT Jasa Raharja noted that the number of traffic accidents during the Lebaran 2023 homecoming period decreased when compared to the number of accidents during the Eid homecoming period the previous year.

As quoted in a press release, Monday, May 1, Director of Institutional Relations of PT Jasa Raharja Munadi Herlambang said that there were a total of 7,633 traffic accidents with 1,121 fatalities during the 2022 Eid homecoming period.

During the Lebaran homecoming period in 2023, from April 18 to 28, Jasa Raharja recorded 5,894 traffic accidents with 726 fatalities.

According to data from PT Jasa Raharja, during the Lebaran homecoming period in 2023, most traffic accidents occurred in the East Java Province with 1,476 traffic accidents and 118 deaths.

Central Java Province ranks second with 980 traffic accidents and 115 fatalities, followed by West Java Province with 444 traffic accidents and 86 fatalities.

"This figure is not final, because the peak of the backflow is going home until May 1, 2023," said Munadi, as quoted by Antara.

When monitoring the backflow of homecoming at Alang Alang Lebar Terminal, Palembang City, Munadi said that about 50 percent of travelers had not returned to their area of origin.

"All modes of transportation have been observed to be effective in carrying out homecoming services, especially prepared for backflow. The peak of backflow occurred from April 29 to May 1, and all modes of public transportation from Sumatra to Java were fully monitored," he said.

Munadi stated that the decrease in the number of traffic accidents during the Lebaran homecoming period could not be separated from the efforts of all relevant stakeholders in preparing carefully for the implementation of services and securing the flow of Eid homecoming.

"We are trying and praying that the number of accidents will decrease in line with Jasa Raharja's massive safety campaign efforts and driving behavior that is safe from the community is increasing," he said.
