Former Speaker Of The Indonesian House Of Representatives Setya Novanto Gets Remission For Eid Al-Fitr

JAKARTA - Convicts in corruption cases in the procurement of e-KTP, Setya Novanto received remission or reduced sentences on Eid al-Fitr. He is a resident of the Sukamiskin Class I Prison, Bandung, West Java. Apart from Setya Novanto, 207 other inmates also received different remissions. However, Kusnali did not elaborate further on the granting of the reduced sentence. The former chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives became a resident of Sukamiskin Prison after being sentenced to 15 years in prison in a corruption case in the procurement of e-KTP. The Jakarta Corruption Court Panel of Judges found him guilty of benefiting himself worth US$7.3 million and received a luxury Richard Mille watch worth 135 US dollars from the project. This verdict was handed down in 2018. In addition, Setya Novanto was also required to pay a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 3 months in prison. Then, he was also required to pay compensation in accordance with the money he received, which amounted to USD 7.435 million minus IDR 5 billion.

This replacement money must be paid by Setya Novanto a month after the judge's decision is permanent.
