The Effect Of Destruction, Sales Of Imported Used Clothing Will Reduce After Eid 2023

BATAM - Acting Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order, Ministry of Trade, Moga Simatupang, predicts that sales of used imported clothing in the market throughout Indonesia will decrease after Eid 2023.

"We estimate (the circulation of used clothes will decrease, ed.) after Eid 2023, but later we will see and control it again in the market," said Moga, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 3.

For this reason, he said, his party is currently giving opportunities to traders who sell used clothes to sell their merchandise until Lebaran 2023 is over.

After that, he said, his party will re-check starting from the level of importers, wholesale levels, and retailers whether the used clothes have decreased or are still massively traded.

In the same place, Director General of Customs and Excise Askolani said efforts to prohibit imports of used clothes were directed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the handling of the circulation of illegal imported clothing that interfered with the domestic textile industry and as an implementation of the management of goods resulting from customs and excise prosecution.

In addition, he said, imports of used goods can affect the condition of the domestic textile industry and can have a negative effect on health, safety, security, and the environment because these commodities are categorized as waste.

One of the efforts made, he said, destroyed 5,853 koli used imported clothing, which was valued at around Rp. 17.4 billion in Batam.

Destruction is one way of managing state property (BMN) with the aim of eliminating the initial form and nature of the hakiki of an item. This is based on the Regulation of the Minister of Finance (PMK) Number 178/PMK.04/2019. We hope that by destroying it can prevent negative effects caused by used imported goods," he said.
