The Ministry Of PUPR Has Started To Arrange An Atakkae Traditional House Tourism Area In South Sulawesi For IDR 5.8 Billion

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has begun to organize the Atakkae Traditional House Tourism Area in Tempe District, Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi Province.

The arrangement aims to restore the function of one of the largest Atakkae Traditional Houses in the region or known as Sao Raja La Tenri Bali as when it was originally completed in 1995, as an icon of tourism over the greatness of the Wajo Kingdom.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the arrangement of the area is expected to be able to bring tourists to come to Wajo Regency, so that it can improve the economy of the local community.

"The arrangement of tourist areas is also to provide good service for visitors who come," said Basuki in a written statement, Tuesday, June 20.

The construction work on the arrangement of tourist areas has begun to be carried out by the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of South Sulawesi, the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR with the 2023 State Budget budget of IDR 5.8 billion.

The scope of work includes revitalization of traditional houses, construction of supporting facilities, and landscape arrangement.

The Atakkae Traditional House area itself has a land area of 1.107 Ha with a total building area of 1.616 m2, consisting of several traditional houses from various sub-districts in Wajo Regency.

Atakkae itself is a term for traditional houses in Sengkang.

This traditional house has a stilt house design like the general Bugis traditional house.

Among all traditional houses in the area, there is the largest house that is the main traditional house that reads "Saoraja La Tenri Bali" which means the Raja Palace, has a buffer of 101 round-shaped pillars which are one of the uniqueness of this traditional house.

La Tenri Bali is a king or by the Sengkang called Arung Matoa who once ruled in the Wajo Kingdom.

The Atakkae Traditional House Tourism area is about 190 km from the center of Makassar City, which is the capital city of South Sulawesi Province, with a travel time of 5 hours using a four-wheeled vehicle.

"It is hoped that this arrangement can be an additional attraction for tourists because it is located right on the banks of Lake Lampung, and improves the quality of destinations, infrastructure and tourist facilities, so that it is more comfortable, which will ultimately have a positive impact on the local economy, especially in Wajo Regency," added Basuki.
