Promoting ESG And Ecotourism, Bank Mandiri Holds Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2023

JAKARTA - Mandiri Jogja Marathon (MJM) 2023, the most anticipated annual running event will present a new journey this year. It is certain that it will be more lively than the previous year, the international-scale marathon event, which is widely called Mandiri Jogmar, will be held this time in Yogyakarta with participants reaching 8,000 people from various regions.

The event, which competed in four categories, namely Marathon (42,195 Km), Half Marathon (21 Km), and 10 Km and 5 Km (Fun Run) was held at the heart of Yogyakarta tourism, namely the Prambanan area on June 18, 2023. The event, which has been held since 2017, is also a form of Bank Mandiri's commitment to introduce the uniqueness and diversity of tourism in Indonesia, especially Yogyakarta.

Not only that, this activity, which is held on an annual basis by Bank Mandiri, is also an effort to re-excitate a healthy living culture. At the same time, it is a momentum for the company to succeed in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles being promoted by Bank Mandiri.

As an event that implements zero waste to landfill, Bank Mandiri also cooperates with several parties and waste management companies, to sort and recycle organic and non-organic waste to provide positive benefits for the environment. This is a form of Bank Mandiri's consistency in achieving carbon emission reduction and supporting sustainable growth.

Not only that, Bank Mandiri VP Corporate Communication Ricky Andriano explained, like in previous years Bank Mandiri also collaborated with the Provincial Government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) to raise the richness of local culture and products. In addition to cultivating a healthy lifestyle, Ricky added that Mandiri Jogja Marathon also has a mission to spur tourism development and the economy in Yogyakarta and its surroundings, including the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.

We hope this can be a positive trigger for the domestic economy," Ricky said at the 2023 Yogyakarta Jogja Marathon Mandiri Press Conference in Yogyakarta, Thursday, June 15.

Moreover, of the 8,000 participants who will compete for the marathon this year, most of them are runners across generations from the Greater Jakarta area and major cities in Indonesia. Including, several runners from various countries such as Kenya, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Malaysia, and other countries.

This, continued Ricky, will provide its own color for the 2023 MJM event which is rarely encountered in other similar events. "Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2023 this time also developed a series of activities involving the national and international runner community by providing a satisfying experience for all participants," he added.

As an effort to optimize this, this event also collaborates with local agencies starting from the Sleman Regency Government, Yogyakarta Regional Police and PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko. Ricky explained that this collaboration is an important key to supporting smooth events, including traffic arrangements so as to maintain community activities around the participant running route.

Also, to strengthen the security and convenience of MJM 2023 participants, Bank Mandiri also collaborated with PT AXA Mandiri Financial Services (AMFS) to provide insurance protection for self-accidents. The benefits of insurance protection are a form of Mandiri Group's focus in providing comfort and security for the community.

Among other things, in the form of protection benefits worth Rp 160 billion to 8,000 participants and benefits of replacing medical treatment costs if there is a risk during Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2023. Through providing protection to participants, Bank Mandiri hopes that all participants will focus on providing the best because they are protected from the risk of accidents.

Bank Mandiri also carried out repairs and renovations at several points which are routes that will be traversed by MJM 2023 participants, starting from the Fun Run (5 Km) route to the Marathon route (42 Km).

"This has become a form of our consistency since it was held in 2017, Bank Mandiri has actively carried out active Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL), especially in terms of road repairs which are routes for participants," he said.

Yogyakarta Mayor Singgih Raharjo, who previously served as Head of the DIY Tourism Office (Dinpar), revealed that to attract tourism interest, his party has also involved a number of local MSME traders to participate in enlivening this marathon competition.

"We don't just want to involve participants, but also want to reintroduce local wisdom and Yogyakarta culture to tourists, spectators, and other parties to participate in enlivening the Mandiri Jogja Marathon this year," he explained.

Singgih also added that the DIY Provincial Government and Bank Mandiri also collaborated with various elements of society, including schools, art community studios, and MSMEs to play an active role. Among other things, the MJM icon is in the form of performing arts from Punakawan, Rama & Sinta and Rahwana & Hanoman.

Not only that, the public and participants can also taste the Yogyakarta-style culinary tour available in Race Village which can be enjoyed after tired of running.
