Taiwan Finds Cancer Triggering Substances In Indomie, Ministry Of Trade: We Check First

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) will follow up on the findings of the Taipei Health Dapertemen, Taiwan related to allegations of cancer-triggering substances in Indomie brand instant noodle products that taste special Chicken.

The Director General of Foreign Trade (Daglu) of the Ministry of Trade, Budi Santoso, said that his party would communicate with Indofood to ensure the truth of the allegation.

"We'll check first. We also communicate with Taiwan," he said at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta, Thursday, April 27.

Budi said, Taiwan does have its own standards in the classification of export-worthy products. Even so, Budi emphasized that Indonesia always ensures that export products are in accordance with BPOM standards in the country.

"If you enter Taiwan, there is a provision that the content must be there, yes we have to adjust it, but it will be checked first whether it is true like that," he said.

"It's true that our standards with Taiwan are different, yes, in Indonesia it's actually not a problem, only in Taiwan, the rules are very sensitive, different from us. But there is actually no problem in Indonesia," he continued.

The case of instant noodles like this, said Budi, is not the first time this has happened. Previously, Wings Food products, namely Mie Sedap, also experienced the same problem. However, the problem has been resolved after both parties communicated.

"There used to be noodles too, but not from Indomie. We can finish it at that time, finally from Taiwan, from the POM, Taiwan was here to enforce verification. So it can be resolved properly at that time," he said.
